AGV IV 2017 In Association With No NANsense!

The Day

Thursday July 13, 2017 was a blast! Held in conjunction with NAMHSA's No NANsense event, AGV IV proved to be wildly popular and well attended with a whopping 105 entries! Even the 60s-70s class was jam-packed! People really brought out some serious beauties and historical pieces, and we were all treated to a nostalgia buffet and visual feast! What was also special were the stories people shared, the backstory of their pieces that deepened their significance. What's more we saw some familiar faces plus many new ones! Ardith Carlton of VCMEC fame even came out from Japan with a few of her lovelies!

The Awards

We had a plethora of cool awards this time since I wanted to really hand out the goodies. In particular, I added a "Favorite Expression" award plus a "Favorite Solid Color," "Favorite Composite," "Favorite Pinto," and "Favorite Appaloosa." I also gave Hubby and Mom five awards each to give to a favorite in each class rather than the usual one prize each. I had five, too. Eleanor Harvey, as representative of the Smithsonian, got to award a special prize as did Ardith Carlton as a representative of VCMEC. Kim Bjorgo, as No NANsense host, got a special award to give out as did each instructor. I also introduced the now-infamous rubber duckie award, given to the two oldest entries in each class since "they're still afloat!"

I make all the awards out of ceramic clay, usually mid-fire porcelain. I try to pick pretty glazes that also best showcase the stamped impressions, too. This year hubby spent all day tying ribbons to each tile! Thank you, Muffin! My Mom also came out to help and she kept things moving along, organized and on time! Thank you, Mom! I seriously cannot pull this show off without either of them, they're so invaluable! Now those white plaques in the back there are the resin-cast Champion and Reserve bas-reliefs I sculpted specifically for this show, expertly cast by BearCast LLC. Then I created twenty Prancing PonyTM magnets to give away as voter raffle items, which is always popular at the end of the show!

So now we have the basic news, let's get down to the nitty-gritty! The entries!

Wrap Up

A great day was had by all and it was sure wonderful to meander down memory lane together! I want to thank everyone who participated and especially a big thank you to NAMHSA for allowing AGV to piggy back onto No NANsense!

As for next year, it looks like AGV will be held again with NAN in 2018, so stay tuned for news as it develops! You may also want to visit the AGV Facebook page to stay current on immediate goings on and announcements. I plan for lots more awards and even the debut of the new AGV Grand and Reserve Grand official trophies! I'll also be celebrating my 50th Birthday, so I'll be vintage, too! For that, I plan to create an extra-special Birthday award given to the entry I would most want as a Birthday present! And maybe we'll feast on Birthday cupcakes!

So thanks again everyone! See you next year!
