ABOUT THE SHOW
Started in 2016, A Good Vintage is a show series dedicated to the vintage custom. At present it's held twice a year, first with BreyerWest in Albany, Oregon and, secondly, with NAN in Lexington, Kentucky.
Voting is done by People's Choice, and folks can use whatever criteria they want to make their placings. People are also encouraged to oogle the entries and to reminisce and share their memories—this show is really about celebrating our past and our communal creativity, so have fun! And don't be shy about photographing them and sharing them on social media! Old industry publications are also offered for your perusal for more sauntering down memory lane.
Your host, Sarah Minkiewicz–Breunig, is a lifetime enthusiast of the vintage custom who both actively promotes and collects them. Check out her studio blog for more information about her and her work.
BASIC CLASSES
- 1960s–1970s
- 1980s
- 1990s
- Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion
However, sometimes the classes are split and expanded, depending on the number of entries.
HOW IT WORKS
- The entries are separated into their classes by date of creation.
- You're provided with voting raffle tickets by AGV staff. Tickets are FREE. Use two tickets per class and then save two tickets for voting for Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion. For voting, you can use your two tickets per class to vote for two entries, or use those two tickets for one entry, depending how you want to weight your favorite. Each ticket counts as one vote.
- Place your ticket in the cup beside your chosen entry.
- Use your own criteria to judge the entires. For example, you can apply the usual judging points or simply by the "coolness" factor—it's up to you! Have fun!
- Damage shouldn't count against an entry.
- Hold onto your ticket coupon for the special voter raffle at the end of the show!
TIMETABLE
- 9:00am Vintage customs are placed in their respective classes and left throughout the day.
- 9:30am–2:00pm People's Choice voting occurs throughout the day.
- 2:20pm Champions and Reserve Champions awarded as determined by the ticket count.
- 2:30 Entrants remove their entries from the tables except for the Champions and Reserve Champions.
- 2:40pm Voting for Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion takes place.
- 3:30pm Grand and Reserve Grand Champion awarded as determined by the ticket count.
- 3:45pm Raffle for voters.
- 4:00pm Entrants pick up their entries and vacate the show tables. Entries must be picked up no later than 4:15pm.
